How to Report a Car Accident in Florence
In Florence, drivers can report a car accident by calling 911, contacting local police, or filing a report through the Kentucky State Police system. Each option applies to different situations, so knowing when to use each helps drivers act quickly and correctly.
When a crash causes injuries or blocks traffic, calling 911 is the most immediate step. Dispatchers send police and medical teams to the scene right away. That call also creates an official report tied to the incident.
For minor crashes where no one is hurt, and vehicles can be moved safely, drivers can contact local police through a non-emergency line. Officers may direct drivers to file a written report at the station instead of responding on site. This helps keep emergency lines available for urgent situations.
Kentucky law requires drivers to file a separate crash report with state authorities when a crash involves injuries, death, or major property damage. This report goes to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and is different from any report filed with local police. Drivers must submit it within the required timeframe after the crash.
