Settlement reached in church retreat carbon monoxide poisoning case. Way to go, Jeff!

March 20, 2025

In January 2024, Kentucky State Police say two women from Grace Fellowship Church were on a youth group retreat at The Bluegrass Palace in Langley when they were found unresponsive due to exposure to "fatal levels" of carbon monoxide.  One of the women, Kara Hanks, died.  The other woman, Kristin Niemeyer, was seriously injured and, at one point, was in a coma and had a 50% change of survival.  Thankfully, Kristin woke up 12 hours later.

Now, a settlement has been reached between several plaintiffs and the three defendants, Classic Pools; The Bluegrass Palace property owners; and The Farm, LLC.  The settlement is a relief for the family and will allow healing for all involved.  Please see the interview with Kristin's husband, Joe Niemeyer, here.

The settlement of this matter, negotiated by Jeff Blankenship of Z&S Law (Ziegler & Schneider, P.S.C.) on behalf of his clients, is just another example of the justice to be had when the right partner has your back.
